How it all started…..

(These are the first candles I had ever made!)

It all started with an annual trip to the Poconos where I decided it would be fun to take our crafting skills to the next level. Sure, we still sat around eating, drinking, playing card games and board games but from years past knew I couldn’t crochet to save my life so I figured how hard could candle making be?!

So I purchased and brought along a candle making kit as well as a soap making kit but to my surprise I had accidentally purchased 2 candle making sets, and mistakenly left the soap making kit at home (a Gayromatherapy Soap collection may be in my future….).

In any event, I had figured the candle making process needed to be quick and fun so I announced for my friends to pick out their candle jars, their wax color dyes, and their signature scents. Now if you’ve burned a candle candle before you know that the wax cools pretty quickly so I had to keep my friends to a tight schedule in an effort to reduce the clean up afterwards and to also reduce any potential injuries throughout the process.

Leaning into my newly apparent ‘dom-era’ I assertively instructed my friends on appropriate temperature to heat the wax, when to add the dye/s, and when to add the scented oils. I decided to take on the responsibility of finally pouring their candle creations into their hand picked candle jars (aka I just read and followed the instructions). Wait, you didn’t think I’d let my friends pour their own hot burning candle wax into their own candle jars while drinking, did you?! New Rule: No Trips to the hospital while on vacation. Safety first, kids!).

In the end, we all had a blast learning about the whole candle making process together and now have some pretty cool keepsakes that remind us of our annual trip but, most importantly, that we can always be our true authentic selves around each other <3
